SUKAJAN FACTORYは、日本のスカジャン文化、横振り刺繍、1940〜1950年代のスーベニアウェアを中心に、制作・研究・収集を行っています。

また一点物のビスポークスカジャン、ブランド・ショップ向けの少ロット生産、Historical Reproduction、刺繍・伝統的図案、デザイン制作、ヴィンテージ資料の収集・販売・研究など行っています。

SUKAJAN FACTORY is a Japan-based studio engaged in the creation, research, and collection of sukajan culture, Yokofuri embroidery, and Japanese souvenir wear, with a particular focus on pieces from the 1940s and 1950s.

Our work also includes one-of-a-kind bespoke sukajan, small-batch production for brands and shops, historical reproduction projects, embroidery, traditional Japanese motifs and design development, as well as the collection, sale, and research of vintage garments and archival materials.

We have experience working with clients from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, South Korea, and other countries. For international projects, we mainly communicate via email and WhatsApp, confirming the design, specifications, sizing, and production progress throughout the process.

SUKAJAN FACTORY オーナー。

足踏み式ミシンによる横振り刺繍技法でオリジナルスカジャンの制作を行い、ヴィンテージスカジャンの構造や表現を実制作を通して研究しています。

また、スカジャン誕生の歴史、戦争に翻弄された庶民の歴史、戦前の戦後の縫製業の変遷や、龍、虎、鷲、富士、波、雲など、日本美術で長く用いられてきたモチーフが、戦後のスカジャンにどのように受け継がれ、再解釈されたのか。様々な角度からスカジャンについて研究・考察した「スカジャン文化論」の書籍の発売へ向け活動しています。

I create original sukajan using traditional Yokofuri embroidery techniques with a foot-operated sewing machine, while studying the construction and visual expression of vintage sukajan through hands-on production.

My research also explores the history behind the birth of the sukajan, the lives of ordinary people shaped by the upheavals of war, the changes in Japan’s sewing and garment industries before and after the war, and the ways in which motifs long rooted in Japanese art—such as dragons, tigers, eagles, Mount Fuji, waves, and clouds—were inherited and reinterpreted in postwar sukajan design.

Drawing on these perspectives, I am currently working toward the publication of a book on sukajan culture, examining the garment from a range of historical, cultural, and craft-based perspectives.
